Michelle Asby, LCSW LSCSW

Graduated from Kansas University in 2015.

EMDR therapist.
I am a social worker at heart, in other words, it has not just been a job I have done for over 25 years, it is the core of who I am. A helper, an empathic listener, an advocate, a clinician. In my practice, I strive to maintain that all people are unique and deserving of the opportunity to thrive using their distinctive strengths and abilities. I make it my priority to listen, set meaningful goals for therapeutic change, and develop a plan that is collaborative to meet your unique needs. I strive to provide a warm and therapeutic space where vulnerability and trust can thrive; creating an environment you can feel safe to practice personal growth without judgement. I use a variety of evidence-based treatment models including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Therapy skills (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment (ACT), family systems, and mindfulness to
guide therapeutic change.

Everyone we meet is walking around with an 'under construction' sign above their head, meaning that behind the scenes everyone is working on something. My goal is to help you alter your perception of you and to assist you in finding your way to living a life you deem fulfilling.  As a former collegiate athlete, my competitive energy is channeled into creating a gentle, yet direct and honest approach.

I graduated from the University of Missouri - Kansas City in 2019, and have experience treating a wide variety of clients including LGBTQ+ youth and adults, marriage and couples, athletes, and first responders. I use a multicultural informed approach, and work diligently to provide a friendly, nonjudgmental atmosphere to ensure your emotional comfort and safety. I mostly use acceptance and commitment therapy, as well as cognitive behavioral therapy and emotion focused therapy, but may pull from other strategies based on needs.

Your family may be feeling like it is being turned upside down as your developing young adult
struggles to find their place in the world. I work within the family system to re-establish the
balance that is necessary for a healthy, growing family and find order within the chaos. Teens
and young people may appear to be rebelling; fighting back against all of the family’s efforts to
offer guidance and support. With over 25 years of experience, we can work together to turn this energy into a productivity and success in academic, social, and all other aspects of life. We will get to the issues and stick with them. When you or your family is in crisis or turmoil, you can't afford to lose precious time. Call and ask for an assessment for Individual Therapy or for our Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program. Many clients and families find that a more intensive approach to counseling helps them realize the changes they want to see in their lives. Our Intensive Outpatient Program is just the fit for this. We have programs that meet three evenings a week.

Whether you are facing a new crisis in your life or feeling stuck with old feelings and behaviors, therapy can be a useful tool to help you move on with your life. Utilizing a direct and thoughtful approach, I will help you find coping strategies to deal with the immediate stressor, but also help you identify underlying patterns and issues so you can make long-term and lasting changes. I work with a range of clients from adults to adolescents and help people with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, and crisis situations.

I have training in a range of therapuetic approaches. Through a collabrotive effort, we will create a plan that includes a combination of approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy, strengths-based concepts, and EMDR (when appropriate). Clients often feel empowered when leaving therapy with me, free from their past, and capable of taking on their future.

Jon Effertz, LCSW

Graduated from University of Missouri - Kansas City in 2014.

EMDR therapist.
Each of us bring a unique perspective to how we interact with the world around us. I pride myself in maintaining a position of openness and radical acceptance. It is said that those that practice what they teach are most effective as clinicians. This is a fundamental principal of how I practice therapy and has given me the insight of knowing what is most effective. I have extensive experience in working with depression and anxiety through the use of Cognitive Behavior Therapy.

My work experience is inclusive of involvement with inpatient and outpatient levels of care. Through this, I have come to recognize the impact of the multiple variables and systems surrounding our lives.

Others have described my style as relaxed and comfortable. Most importantly, I truly believe that therapy is a collaborative process and this is reflected within the dynamics of how I practice.
